AI Generated Content: Everything You Need to Know

In case you haven’t heard: AI-generated content has stepped into the spotlight. If you’re a professional in the digital media or tech space, then you’ll know that the concept of AI tools is not an entirely new one. However, the rising popularity of ChatGPT and Jasper AI has brought up a conversation on the future of AI in the space of (gasp!) social media content creation.

Here are three things you need to know about AI-generated content:

  1. What is AI Content Creation?

AI-generated content (such as blogs, descriptions, articles, etc) is machine-made, taking into account human search queries and running them through artificial intelligence software with a simple *click*. An example of popular new AI software can be found with ChatGPT by OpenAI

  2. AI is not limited to just writing

Using artificial intelligence to generate content goes beyond writing. Have you seen the almost creepy portrait generators? There are AI apps that create artwork, social media filters, and even photo editing tools. The downside? It has to learn from somewhere, meaning the results are rooted in original work from real artists, taken without permission. One example is Getty Images (a popular stock image website) which recently filed a lawsuit against Stability AI, alleging copyright violations after having used their images to “seed” their AI software.

  3. What does AI content mean for your social strategy?

When it comes to your social media strategy, artificial intelligence can help with certain automated tasks, like scheduling, suggesting the best times to post, and hashtag optimization. If you have writer’s block (ugh!) then AI can help with brainstorming and even research, when used carefully and with purpose. Though easy enough to figure out and use, what AI lacks most is the nuance of brand voice and SEO practices. It may be around for years to come, but originality is not its strong suit.

So, do we think using AI entirely for your social media is a good idea? No. It can seem like an easy way out of something that takes time and experience, but you need to have a human understanding of your brand to truly connect to your audience. But, can it be helpful if you’re in a slump and need some extra writing prompts or social media hashtag suggestions? For sure. In the future, though? Who knows what AI will be able to do. We can’t wait to find out.
